Reluctant Christian Ambassador: Concern about family (10)

Letter from Daughter

Introduction: I drafted this story over 10 years ago in the midst of a life transition. I was wrestling with what it meant for me to be Christian 24/7, especially a Christian Businessperson and a Christian Entrepreneur.  I decided to write a short letter to God to express my frustrations with life; I wrote for two days straight.  Christian Leadership

The manuscript of Letters from the King: The Reluctant Christian Ambassador sat on the shelf. Periodically I took it off the shelf and paged through. Invariably, I returned it to the shelf, discouraged because it seemed too daunting of a task to “clean it up.”  However, this is the year!  I look forward to our journey together and your insights!

Dear Father,

Thank you for your letter; although I must say it was rather short.  I wait so long and anxiously for your letter…and then it is so short!  However, I won’t complain; I love hearing from you.

Thank you for asking about my family.  That really is a tough one.  My husband seems overly caught up in trying to provide for us physically.  I guess he must, he has much responsibility.  I worry about him, Father.  It’s so difficult trying to keep everything balanced between earning money for our shelter, food and clothing and being with us. Then, at his job he has so many demands on him that sometimes he thinks about those issues even when he is at home with us.  It seems that his job is so demanding that he doesn’t even have time to think about You and the reason we were sent here – to be ambassadors.

I must confess that I also ring myself getting so caught up in day-to-day living that I too find it difficult to remember the reason we are here.  Sometimes just taking care of the kids seems overwhelming.  They see this world and all its ways and their memories of you are fading.  They too are getting caught up in the ways of this land.

Frankly, Dad, I don’t think we are doing that well.  My husband seems busy doing his job providing for us, my children are caught up in this world, and I feel alone, uncertain as to what to do to change the situation and to bring us back to our original mission.

What should I do?  I wish so much that you would send for us soon.

I miss you.

Daughter

Marketplace Minister’s Question: What spiritual practices do you incorporate into your life that help in reminding you of your priorities?

Marketplace Minister’s Lesson: Set aside time to talk to God about what’s really going on. He cares.

P.S.  I’m interested in your comments on this journey. What details would you add? What questions are you asking yourself after reading?  If you were in the character’s shoes, what questions would you be asking?

Letters from the King: The Christian’s Family (9)

Letter from Father

Note: to start from the beginning of Letters from the King: The Reluctant Christian Ambassador, go here.

You’ve got it, Daughter!

The criteria you have chosen are exactly correct! However, there is one addition. I sent you into that land with a husband and children. I have entrusted them to you. I need you to take care of them. Families are important. I do wonder, Daughter, why you haven’t mentioned more of them in your previous letters.

Christian Leadership

Christian Leadership

How are you handling that responsibility? I have sent you to this land to announce my message, and yet, I have also entrusted some very precious people to your tender loving care. Do not forget them. I need you to nurture them also, so they will be just as bold and confident as you are in proclaiming my message.

Your loving Father

Marketplace Minister’s Question: How often do you get too caught up in work and the non-ending ToDo List?

Marketplace Minister’s Lesson: Caring for our families is one of the highest calling that we have a Marketplace Ministers.

P.S. I’m interested in your comments on this journey. What details would you add? What questions are you asking yourself after reading? If you were in the character’s shoes, what questions would you be asking? I look forward to your insights!

Reluctant Christian Ambassador: The Marketplace Minister’s Job (8)

Letter from Daughter

(Note: to start from the beginning of the Letters from the King: The Reluctant Christian Ambassador, go here.)

Oh, Father, thank you for writing. I have read your letter over and over to my children. We love your words.

You asked me about what criteria I am using to find a job.  I had hoped You would tell me.  But, since You didn’t, I’d like to run these ideas by You and see what You think.

Christian Leadership

Since You sent me here to tell the people of this land that You love them and care for them, it seems that I should work with the people that You love. In this way, when they see me working, they are seeing You.  At least, that’s my hope–that Your character will shine through me in all that I do. So, criteria #1 is that the job needs to be out working in the midst of those who don’t know You.

Secondly, You have trained me well.  My guess is that as You were raising me, You knew You would be sending me here – so You’ve schooled me in the things I need to know and gifted me with those gifts that would be particularly useful in this land.  Am I correct, Father? So, criteria #2 is that I need to use the knowledge, teachings and gifts You have given me.

Thirdly, the work needs to be honorable work that is pleasing to You.  They are many “jobs” that don’t seem to honor You at all.

Father, what other criteria should I use?

Your loving Daughter

Marketplace Minister’s Question: How does your work work match up to these three criteria?

Marketplace Minister’s Lesson: Work is one of the highest expressions of worship.

P.S.  I’m interested in your comments on this journey. What details would you add? What questions are you asking yourself after reading?  If you were in the character’s shoes, what questions would you be asking?

Letters from the King: Encourage Each Other (7)

Letter from The King

(Note: to start from the beginning of Letters from the King: The Reluctant Christian Ambassador, go here.)

It was so good to hear from you.  Even though I know that you have been raised and nurtured with the utmost care and that I have My Advisor with you, I am still concerned about you and long to see you.

Christian Leadership

Christian Leadership

I am so glad that you have found my people and that they are seeking the truth. It must be hard for them also.  Daughter, I need you to encourage them.  Motivate them to, not only keep the faith, but to keep hoping, to keep loving…. and to keep telling.

I imagine it would be easy for them to feel frightened in all the turmoil that is happening in the land.  They must come together to encourage and help each other; but I also need them to be spreading the word that I love them and care for them. Constantly remind them that I am coming back soon and they also need to be telling their own neighbors and co-workers about my return.  I want to find My land in good condition…not trampled by those who don’t know me.

It was a difficult decision on my part, child, to send you as a messenger to this unfriendly land.  However, I know you.  I know what gifts and strengths I have given you.  I know your heart.  I know your ways.  I know all about you, child, and you can handle this assignment….as long as you work closely with My Advisor.  You are young…but He has been with me from the very beginning and knows everything that you need to know.

Jobs…now that is a tough one.  My guess is that you will enjoy many things since you are so talented and I have gifted you with much.  What criteria are you using to choose the right job for you and your family, Danita?

I look forward to hearing from you again soon.  My heart longs to see you again.

Your caring Father.

Marketplace Minister’s Question: How do you encourage Christ followers to stay in community and to stay in the Word?

Marketplace Minister’s Lesson:To be effective, we need to be in fellowship with other committed Christ followers.
